Woolbrook Public School had the incredible opportunity to host Questacon, the National Science and Technology Centre. Over 50 enthusiastic students from nearby schools including Yarrowitch, Niangala, Kingstown, and Kentucky joined us for a day filled with hands-on science activities and discovery. The students explored a range of fascinating scientific concepts, sparking curiosity and inspiring a love for learning in science. It was wonderful to see their excitement as they engaged with interactive exhibits and experiments designed to make science fun and accessible for all ages. A big thank you to our Parent & Citizens (P&C) Association for their outstanding support in hosting this event. Their efforts helped make the day a memorable success for everyone involved. We look forward to more amazing opportunities to bring engaging learning experiences to our school community!

Our Easter Hat Parade was a fantastic celebration that brought our school community together. Students proudly wore their unique, handmade hats, showcasing their creativity and enthusiasm. Families and staff joined in the fun, creating a fun atmosphere and plenty of smiles. Thank you to everyone who participated and contributed to making the event such a memorable and colourful occasion.

Our students proudly participated in Clean Up Australia Day, making a positive impact in Woolbrook village. Armed with gloves and rubbish bags, the students worked together to collect litter and tidy public spaces, helping to keep our local environment clean and beautiful. Their enthusiasm and commitment to caring for our community was inspiring, and we thank them for showing true leadership and responsibility. Well done to all involved

ANZAC Day Woolbrook Public School was proud to be well represented at this year’s ANZAC march in Walcha. A heartfelt thank you goes to Miss Kuhr and Mrs Eveleigh for marching alongside our students, embodying the spirit of remembrance and respect. We also extend our gratitude to the parents who made this participation possible by arranging transport and supporting the event. It was a meaningful day for all involved, reflecting the strong community spirit of our school

In Term 1, students, staff, and families from Walcha Public School, Yarrowitch Public School, and Niangala Public School gathered at the Walcha Pool for a vibrant swimming carnival. The event was filled with energy, friendly competition, and community spirit, making it a highlight for the term.

Students of all ages participated in a range of swimming races and novelty events, showcasing their skills and support for each other. Laughter and cheers echoed across the pool as participants strove for their personal bests, and spectators enthusiastically encouraged every swimmer. The friendly rivalry between the schools added an extra spark to the day, fostering sportsmanship and camaraderie.

Staff and volunteers ensured the smooth running of the program, with the carnival featuring both competitive and fun events so everyone could take part.

The swimming carnival not only promoted water safety and active lifestyles but also strengthened the bond between Walcha, Yarrowitch, and Niangala communities.

On Tuesday, 12th May, Woolbrook Public School welcomed Life Education with Kira, along with students from Niangala and Yarrowitch. It was a valuable and engaging experience for all, promoting healthy choices and wellbeing. The day also featured a lovely P&C morning tea and lunch, providing a wonderful opportunity for our school community to come together and connect. We thank everyone who participated and contributed to making the day a success

We were delighted to welcome Lyn to Woolbrook Public School, where she taught our students how to make pompoms and knit as part of the exciting Yarn Bombing Project. This creative initiative involves decorating trees and public spaces with colourful yarn art, a concept embraced worldwide by artists and community groups to brighten parks and streets with a sense of fun. The Yarn Bombing Project at McHatten Park not only beautifies our region but also fosters community connections and supports tourism by creating engaging trails between towns and villages. Our students loved being part of this vibrant and meaningful project, contributing their handmade creations to bring joy and colour to the community

This NAIDOC Week, we were fortunate to welcome Garry Towney to share his rich knowledge of our local Aboriginal culture with Woolbrook and Yarrowitch students. Garry’s visit provided a unique and engaging opportunity for students to deepen their understanding and appreciation of Indigenous heritage and stories. The day was filled with meaningful activities, including craft sessions where students created art inspired by the Rainbow Serpent and explored the vibrant stories of how the birds got their colours. These hands-on experiences brought to life important cultural narratives and helped foster respect for our First Nations peoples. A huge thank you to Garry Towney for his generosity and passion in sharing these invaluable stories and traditions with us. NAIDOC Week is a special time to honour Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, and Garry’s visit made this year’s celebration truly memorable at Woolbrook.

We welcomed members of the Rural Fire Service to our school for an informative and engaging visit. Students learned about fire safety, the important role of firefighters in our community, and how to prepare for bushfire emergencies. The visit included interactive demonstrations, allowing students to ask questions and gain a deeper understanding of fire prevention and response.

Woolbrook Public School students proudly participated in the Small Schools Athletics Carnival on 1st May. Our students demonstrated impressive skill, speed, enthusiasm, and excellent sportsmanship throughout the day. Woolbrook took out the highest point score, and won the marching competition, a fantastic achievement for our school. A special congratulations to Lexi McKern, who not only threw out of the park and will advance to the district athletics for shot put and discus, but also took out the Senior Girls Champion title. Congratulations as well to Nathaniel, who was awarded the 11 Years Boy Champion. We sincerely thank all school staff and parents for their valuable support and contribution on the day, helping to make the event a wonderful success for everyone involved.

In Scripture our students embarked on an enriching journey into the scriptures, engaging with stories in a creative and meaningful way. Under the guidance of Mr. Hunt, the children explored Biblical narratives by crafting characters from clay and creating vibrant scenes that brought these timeless stories to life. ‘Gods people get the kind of king they ask for......and it doesn’t go well.’ The hands-on activity allowed students to deepen their understanding of the scriptures by connecting visual arts with reading and discussion. Reading passages directly from the Bible, coupled with Mr. Hunt’s insightful guidance, made the learning experience both interactive and memorable. Students thoroughly enjoyed their time with Mr. Hunt, appreciating the opportunity to express their creativity while gaining a deeper appreciation for the stories and values found in the scriptures. This blend of art, reading, and storytelling proved to be a wonderful way to engage young learners, fostering both their spiritual and creative development. We look forward to continuing such inspiring and interactive scripture sessions in the future, encouraging our students to explore faith through diverse and imaginative approaches
